CENUK History
CENUK charity was officially registered as a charity in January 2008. It's purpose is to:
".. advance the education of the children & young people of Nepal....in particular, through the building of Schools and other educational facilities & the provision of educational material, tutors, scholarships & other grants....and finally, the relief of young people who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress”
The children of Nepal are amongst the poorest in the world. Working in the remote village of Ashrang in the Himalayas, CENUK is committed to supporting the children who live there and ensuring that each one has the opportunity to attend school. Ashrang is some two and a half hours off road from the nearest town of Ghorka, ancestral home of the British Army Ghurkas. It has a population of approximately 2500, of which around 750 are children of school age (6 – 16). Many (15%) of these are orphans whose parents were tragically killed in crossfire during the Nepalese Civil War.
CENUK has already completely renovated one of the school classrooms, commissioned local craftsmen to build more school benches and desks, and built three sub-stations which provides enough electricity for most of the village. Future plans include renovating, refurbishing, extending and equipping the village's secondary and primary schools; employing more teachers; providing educational sponsorship; building and equipping a library and computer room; building a complete new toilet block; providing enough electricity for the whole village; investigating the possibility of providing running water.
No matter how much you give, your contribution will directly benefit the village and will not be used for administration, marketing costs or salaries. In addition, UK tax payers can Gift Aid their donation. To donate or for further information, please email info@cenuk.org
CENUK is officially adopted by Tyrolean Adventures Limited (www.tyroleanadventures.com) which has already provided funding to secure the education of the children until 2010 and will offer continuing sponsorship for the foreseeable future.
Himalayan Adventures UK was set up to promote tourism in the area and inject much needed money to support the village and others like it. The company offers sightseeing and trekking expeditions for all abilities.
Buy a brick for just ₤5 and help us raise ₤250,000 to provide education for orphans and the children of poor families in the Gorkha District of Nepal, the ancestral home of the British Army Gurkhas.
All donors will have their names engraved and forever recorded on our memorial wall located in the village of Ashrang, Gorkha.
